Santiago is a senior associate of Asali, which he joined since its foundation, and has more than 10 years of experience in the resolution of complex commercial disputes. His practice focuses on litigation and arbitration proceedings mainly related to the construction, technology, energy and food industries. Santiago has successfully represented clients in arbitrations under the ICC, LCIA, CANACO, and UNCITRAL rules.

Among other successfully handled cases, Santiago represented a consortium of three Mexican and one Chinese construction companies in an LCIA arbitration against Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission and obtained the rendering and subsequent payment of a favorable award in the amount of approximately USD 270 million. Currently, Santiago represents a transportation company in an arbitration proceeding related to the effectiveness of a take-or-pay clause for the operation of a transportation and storage contract in the largest thermoelectric plant in the country.

Santiago graduated summa cum laude from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM). In 2020 he obtained an L.L.M. with honors from Columbia University. He passed the New York Bar exam and is admitted to practice law in that jurisdiction. Santiago is fluent in Spanish and English.

Santiago has authored multiple publications on arbitration and his practice has been recognized by legal directories such as Benchmark Litigation and Legal 500.
